FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rochester, NY– With this week’s temperatures giving no indication that summer is ending- a polar vortex across our region during mid-to-late September seems like the plot of a disaster movie but Paul Pastelok, Accuweather’s lead long-range forecaster says that’s what’s in store for us. As if a colder fall season wasn’t enough, Pastelok is also predicting a couple of big storms for December and January which will leave many children exposed to the elements without proper winter attire.
The Salvation Army of Greater Rochester’s Project Bundle Up is there to provide a warm coat for children, ages 6-12 and to help families, facing the financial burden of purchasing a new coat for their young ones. This annual program offers 300 children in Monroe County a chance to shop for a new winter coat with the help of a community volunteer.
Registration for this program takes place today through October 3 at The Salvation Army’s Downtown campus located at 70 Liberty Pole Way. Qualifying families must demonstrate their need and their children cannot have participated in Project Bundle Up in 2013. Registration is Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Shopping takes place at the three area JC Penney stores (Eastview Mall, Greece Ridge Center and The Marketplace Mall) on October 25.
“Project Bundle Up is one of the many Salvation Army programs that provide an opportunity for our community’s families who struggle to make ends meet every day,” says Major Doug Hart, The Salvation Army’s Director of County Operations-Monroe County. “It is also a chance for volunteers from all walks of life to see the difference that can be made in the lives of some of our community’s poorest children. There is no better feeling than seeing the smile on a child’s face when he or she helps select their own coat to keep them warm this winter!”
Those interested in volunteering or looking for more information regarding registering for Project Bundle Up can contact The Salvation Army at 585.987.9500 or visit us online at RochesterSalvationArmy.org.

About The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church, established in London in 1865, has been supporting those in need, in His name, without discrimination for almost 150 years in the United States. Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. 82 cents of every dollar The Salvation Army spends is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide. The Salvation Army has been Doing The Most Good in Rochester since May 4, 1884. Last year, 26,000 bags of groceries and over 30,000 nights of lodging were provided for those in the most need in our community.
